The Ocean Race 2022-23
June 24-July 2
https://theoceanracegenova.com/
Staring in 2015, The Ocean Race has endeavored to combine a unique sailing competition in some of the most remote parts of the world with the collection of valuable scientific data about marine life, the health of the ocean, and climate change. This year's edition of the Race sees the most ambitious science programme to date (and what it is believed is the most comprehensive science programme of any sporting event in the world). During the 32,000 mile long race, 4.3 million measurements of essential ocean parameters will be taken and more than 400 samples of marine litter will be collected. Boats will capture, for the first time, levels of oxygen and trace elements in the water and data will also be delivered to science partners faster than before, transmitted via satellite and reaching the organisations in real time. The Ocean Race is contributing scientific data to the Ocean Decade Odyssey project which is an endorsed project of the UN Decade of Ocean Science (2021-2030). While the race is taking place, there will be policy summits  to prepare a declaration for the protection of the oceans and nature under the UN initiatives.
