Equality and inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean

Amarante, Verónica; Hopenhayn, Martín; Rodríguez, Jorge; Cruces, Guillermo (2014). 'Equality and inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean' Paper presented at the annual conference of the HDCA, 2-5 September 2014, Athens, Greece.

The objective of this panel is to present the Chapter on Inequality form the ECLAC Document for the Period of Sessions.  The chapter describes the regional situation in terms of equality. It is based on ECLAC's concept of equality, which is comprehensive in character and considers recognition as a central notion. This vision incorporates equality of resources, but goes beyond this dimension to incorporate capabilities and relational aspects, reflected in educational and residential segregation. All these aspects are discussed based on data for Latin America covering the last decade.

The general presentation of the panel will be in charge of the Chair, Martín Hopenhayn (Director of the Social Development División, ECLAC), and three papers will be discussed during the session.
