El acceso al agua potable es en la actualidad uno de los principales problemas que presenta el mundo en relación al medio ambiente, de acuerdo con las fuentes de estadísticas e indicadores de la CEPAL, aproximadamente 663 millones de personas carecen de acceso al agua limpia. A partir del año 2015, los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sustentable (ODS) se han propuesto por medio de 17 desafíos alcanzar un mundo más próspero y sostenible, de acuerdo con la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU): “(…) para alcanzar estas metas, todo el mundo tiene que hacer su parte, los gobiernos, el sector privado, la sociedad civil y las personas individuales” . Particularmente nos enfocaremos en el objetivo Nro. 6, Agua Limpia y Saneamiento , no sólo porque es un derecho humano básico y fundamental sino fundamentalmente porque la falta de acceso al agua potable se constituye como una de las principales barrera al desarrollo sustentable y humano en el presente.
