About Clementia Eugene
Clementia Eugene is a PhD candidate at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname and the University of Aruba. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Howard University, Washington, D.C., USA, and completed her undergraduate studies in Social Work at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Missionary Catechesis from Pontificia Universitas Urbaniana, Rome, Italy. With a lifelong dedication to social work, Clementia has spent over 20 years in her homeland, Saint Lucia, working across various sectors, including management, child protection, court social work, domestic violence, youth services, sports, and community development. She has also devoted 27 years to social work education.
Her career in social work education began as a founding member of the curriculum project committee responsible for establishing the Certificate in Social Work program at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Saint Lucia. She later taught in the program and managed the Field Practice component. After 12 years of teaching, she relocated to Aruba, and helped establish the Bachelor of Social Work and Development program at the University of Aruba. Clementia is currently the Interim Program Manager of the Department of Social Work and Development at the University of Aruba. She is passionate about social justice, human rights, and human development. She upholds her belief that social work is a profession everyone should embrace. Clementia is also a poet. She is a mindfulness student, enjoys journalling, and values reflection and self-care.
