Measuring Wellbeing in a Multicultural World: An Interdisciplinary Workshop

August 11, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm UTC+10

FRIDAY, 11 AUGUST

9 am–5 pm, Room 6.71
School of Philosophy
Australian National University

Register at Measuring Wellbeing in a Multicultural World by Friday 4 August

Governments are increasingly introducing measures of national wellbeing, with the aim of developing policies to increase wellbeing. This includes the Australian government, currently in the process of developing its Measuring What Matters framework.

This raises important questions in a multicultural society in which there are range of cultures with different conceptions of wellbeing. Whose conception of wellbeing is being employed? How does the government come to choose one conception of wellbeing over the others? Is it possible to measure wellbeing in a way that respects all a society’s cultures’ conceptions of wellbeing? This interdisciplinary workshop seeks to explore these and other questions, by bringing together philosophers, social scientists, and policy makers.

Attendance is free, but places are strictly limited. If you’re unable to attend in person, participation online will be available.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. We would love to have you join us!
