  • Biographical info: Dr. Peter Bartelheimer, born 1954, German, studied sociology, economics and politics from 1974 to 1978 at the Freie Universitaet Berlin and graduated in sociology. Besides stints as journalist, activist and parliamentary caucus staffer, he has worked in social research since 1983. Having been involved in social reporting and in projects on poverty, social exclusion and labour market services with various German research institutes, he obtained his doctorate in sociology at Frankfurt University in 2000. As a senior researcher at the Sociological Research Institute (SOFI) at Goettingen University, he coordinated the German socio-economic reporting network from 2001 until 2016. In retirement since 2019, he now lives and works in Bremen, Germany. Peter has an extensive research record in socio-economics, inequality measurement, social inclusion, evaluation of labour market and welfare programs. Recent fields of interest are sustainable welfare and industrial reconversion. In his publications (mostly in German), he has used the capability approach as a theoretical reference point in defining and op-erationalising “Teilhabe” (participation and inclusion) as a positive paradigm in welfare and labour market policies. He is a member of HDCA since 2010 and of the TG employ-ment and work from its start in 2021.
