Acerca de Nicolette Roman

Professor Nicolette Roman has a PhD in Psychology, rated as an Established Researcher and registered as a Psychometrist. She currently holds the position of a South African Research Chair in the Development of Human Capabilities and Social Cohesion through the Family in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Children, Families and Society, in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences, at the University of the Western Cape. She is also the Principle Investigator for growing the niche area of Early Childhood Development at the University of the Western Cape. She has achieved various awards for excellence in research. Professor Roman’s research focuses on family life, strengthening capable families through the family-parent-child relationship across the lifespan ultimately achieving cohesion. She has published extensively including the following recent book titles: A Closer Look at Parenting Styles and Practices (2020), Child in Africa: Opportunities and Challenges (2021) and Family Violence (2021). Professor Roman is the founder of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Children, Families and Society in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences at UWC. She currently leads a COVID-19 project exploring Family Life during COVID-19 and has co-authored Chapter 8 of the Country Report on Covid-19 focusing on Civil Society.
