Global Launch of the 2025 Human Development Report

This year, the report tackles one of the seminal issues of our time: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its implications for human development. While much of the public debate focuses on AI’s technical capabilities and competitive dynamics, i.e., on who will “win” the AI race and whether AI will replace humans, the 2025 HDR widens this perspective. Rather than asking “when will AI surpass humans,” it asks, “how can AI augment human capabilities, support wellbeing, and foster inclusive progress?”

At its core, this is a report about people, including how AI impacts lives across the globe, and how it shapes the systems we live in. However, instead of trying to predict the future, the 2025 HDR argues that it is up to us to shape it, including by making bold choices to steer technology in favor of human development.

The global launch of the HDR will feature a high-level policy dialogue on the key findings of the report, with prominent and expert speakers from different sectors. A full list of speaker line-up is attached.
