Call for Abstracts – Workshop on connecting the human development approach to non-human animals, ecosystems, and multispecies justice

Venue and date: One-day hybrid workshop in Tübingen | 29 April 2025

Organised by the Chair of Ethics, Philosophy, and History of the Life Sciences, University of Tübingen, and the European Network of the Human Development & Capability Association (HDCA).

The theme of the workshop will be around the connection of capabilities/human development with issues of nature, (un)sustainability, non-human animals, biodiversity, and ecosystem wellbeing from the perspective of justice.

We welcome submissions from all scientific backgrounds and from a plurality of approaches and perspectives. We invite paper proposals of 500 words to be sent to workshopin2025@protonmail.com by Friday, 6th January. Please attach an abstract for anonymous review in .word of .pdf format. Decisions will be announced on Monday, 3rd February.

Participants will be expected to prepare and circulate full draft papers (5,000 - 10,000 words) by Friday, 4th April and read all drafts in advance before the workshop. Each presenter will have 5 minutes to present a pitch of the main argument of their paper, followed by a discussant (5min) and an open discussion (20 min). Each presenter should also be volunteering to be a discussant.

Attendance will be free, but participants who would like to join us in Tübingen are kindly asked to contact us due to limited space and funding.

Decisions will be announced on Monday, 3rd February
Deadline for submission of full draft papers: Friday, 4th April
